Cedar/Front Project: This is a project with two major components. The first component involves milling the existing asphalt on Cedar from Nettleton to Front Street and on Front Street from Cedar to the intersection with Hwy 7. After the milling is completed the exposed roadways will be overlaid with new asphalt paving material. The second component of the project involves construction of a median designed for the protection of pedestrians. This work will take place on Cedar between 2nd and 3rd and will help facilitate the safe movement of citizens between the parking areas and the new City Hall and Police Station. Note: The construction work on this project is funded through KDOT at 90% of costs.
Concrete curb/gutter/sidewalk work in the area focused on Cedar Street, between 2nd and 3rd Streets, will begin this week, weather permitting. The Contractor will be placing advance notice “No Parking” signs at least 36 to 48 hours in advance of areas that will have parking disruption/restrictions. Contractors on Cedar street will begin the installation of Pedestrian Refuge Islands. The concrete work is expected to take three weeks to complete.
Mill/Fill Asphalt overlay work will also begin at the end of the week, weather permitting. The current plan will generally include two days of milling followed by two days of laying new asphalt until the work is completed. Public Works will update this information as it becomes available.
Downtown Project: This is a project focused on the streets in the downtown central business district. The work will consist of milling current asphalt streets and overlaying with new asphalt paving. The work will also include two (2) parking lots along the eastern edge of Elm Street. Note: The construction work on this project is funded through KDOT at 75% of costs.
Street Overlay Project: This is a project that includes curb repairs and other improvements but will focus on the annual milling of asphalt streets and overlaying with new asphalt paving. The project includes work to the Centennial Parking lot and Cedar Parking lots downtown. In addition, it includes mill/overlay work to the parking lot at the Aquatic Park. Note: The construction work on this project is funded 100% by the City of Bonner Springs.
