OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

1.

Purchase of 2021 Freightliner Dump Truck

Background

The Public Works Department included, as part of the 2021 Capital Improvement Plan, a request to fund a replacement dump truck for the Wastewater Department.  This new dump truck will replace an existing dump truck (Vehicle # 590) which among other things, acts as a backup to haul sludge from the wastewater plant to the landfill.  Truck #590, a 2007 Ford F-750, has exceeded its useful life and needs many costly repairs including a new dump bed.

Discussion

In 2020, the first 2007 Ford F-750 dump truck (Truck #580) was replaced with the intentions to advertise on Purple Wave, an auction website.  For some unknown reason, when Purple Wave released the equipment for the auction, this truck was not included on their sale page.  Staff intended to relist on the next available auction, however, we contacted Freightliner about a possible trade-in of both 2007 F-750’s (Trucks #580 & #590) and was quoted $15,000 for each truck.  This $30,000 trade in value allows the addition of a snow plow package to the truck which gives the us an additional plow truck to utilize when inclement weather strikes or other large plow trucks break down.

Financial Impact

Currently the department was approved for $120,000 to replace this 2007 F-750 dump truck (#590).  A new single axle dump truck with a stainless-steel bed was quoted at $119,636 on the MARC cooperate bid.
