Group Swim Lessons
Group Swim Lessons 2023:
Group classes will last 30 minutes Monday through Thursday for two weeks. If the air temperature is above 60°F and there is no lighting, lessons will happen. This is due to extremely limited make up dates.
Register
- Registration will open on Wednesday, March 15th, 2023 both Online and at the Community Center.
- Make sure your swimmer is placed in the correct level by reading the exit skills. If there is a skill your swimmer cannot confidently complete, that is the level to place them in.

- Bonner Springs Residents - $46 per session
- Non-Residents - $52 per session

Level Descriptions and Exit Skills (Update coming March of 2023):
Preschool:
Pre-School Level One (3-5yrs):
This level is an introductory level for swimming. Participants over the age of 6 will NOT be allowed to register for this level.
Pre-School Level 1 Objective Statement:
Swimmers will be able to submerge underwater and become comfortable in the water. This level focuses on getting younger participants comfortable in the water.
By the end of this level participant should be able to:
- Go under water on their own
- Back float for 5 seconds (with assistance)
- Feel comfortable exploring water with an adult or where they can touch
Pre-School Level Two:
This level is similar to Level One. The main difference is that participants will be expected to complete skills unassisted.
Pre-School Level Two Objective Statement:
Swimmers will be able to submerge underwater on their own and will be introduced to the basic mechanics of the freestyle and backstroke. This level focuses on getting participants comfortable in the water.
By the end of this level, participants should be able to:
- Submerge under water on their own
- Back float for 5 seconds (unassisted)
- Front float for 10 seconds
- Demonstrate comfortability with exploring the water under the supervision of an adult
- Demonstrate flutter kicks and basic freestyle and back stroke movements
6yrs old & up:
Level 1 (6 & up):
This level is the first level in which participants must preform all skill independently. Many participants may have to take this level more than once to pass.
Level One Objective Statement:
Swimmers will be able to demonstrate the Swim-Float-Swim skill set and demonstrate competency with combining skills from previous levels.
By the end of this level, participants should be able to:
- Swim Freestyle and Backstroke independently for 12 yards (1/2 the pool lane distance)
- Back float on their own for at minimum of 15 seconds.
- Be introduced to Rotary Breathing
- Be able to flutter kick 25 yards on their own (while using a kickboard)
- Be able to jump in the deep end of the pool
Level 2 (6 & up):
This level builds upon skills learned in Level 3. While many of skills will be the same, participants will increase their endurance by swimming longer distances and will have to meet a high standard of stroke and breathing proficiency. Swimmers may have to repeat this level due to the higher standards and increased distance requirements.
Level Two Objective Statement:
Swimmers will be able to utilize the Swim-Float-Swim skill set, demonstrate competency with rotary breathing, distance swimming (1 pool length), and treading water in deep water.
By the end of this level, participants should be able to:
- Swim freestyle and backstroke independently for 25 yards (1 length of the pool).
- Back float on their own for at minimum of 30 seconds.
- Tread Water in deep water for 20 seconds.
- Be competent in Rotary Breathing.
- Be able to swim Breaststroke 12 yards (1/2 the pool lane distance).
- Be able to swim Butterfly 12 yards (1/2 the pool lane distance).
- Be able to complete a kneeling dive on their own.
Level 3 (6 & up):
This level builds on the skills and competencies leaned in Level 4 to give participants the knowledge and skills to learn distance swimming.
Level Three Objective Statement:
Swimmers will graduate from the Swim-Float-Swim skill set to a distance swim mentality. Swimmers will exhibit proper lap swimming etiquette and skills.
By the end of this level, participants should be able to:
- Swim Freestyle and Backstroke independently for 50 yards with the correct flip or touch turns
- Tread water for a minimum of 30 seconds in Deep Water
- Be able to swim Breaststroke for 25 yards
- Be able to swim Butterfly for 25 yards
- Be able to complete a standing dive
Level 4 (6 & up):
This level builds on the skills and competencies learned in level 5 to further prepare swimmers for fitness swimming, recreational swimming, or competitive swimming.
Level 5 Objective Statement:
Swimmers will show proper lap swimming skills and etiquette. This level will prepare them for fitness or competitive swimming.
By the end of this level, participants should be able to:
- Swim Freestyle and Backstroke independently for 100 yards with the correct flip turns
- Tread water for a minimum of 1 minute in Deep Water
- Be able to swim Breaststroke for 50 yards with correct turn
- Demonstrate a correct Breaststroke Start
- Be able to swim Butterfly for 50 yards with the correct turn
- Compete a standing dive followed by a distance swim
Level 5&6 (6 & up):
DUE TO CONSISTENT LOW ENROLLMENT, LEVELS 7 & 8 ARE NOT BEING OFFERED FOR THE 2023 POOL SEASON. Swimmers interested in these levels are encouraged to sign up for the Dolphin Swim Team or to join the waitlist for either Level 5 or 6.
The Bonner Springs Aquatic Park will offer these levels if there are 5 participants interested in taking the class. It costs zero dollar to join the waitlist. If there are 5 interested individuals, the Aquatic Coordinator will reach out with class information.
