Drinking Water Monitoring Violation

The Bonner Springs Utilities Department recently issued the 2014 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) covering the water quality data for 2013.   Included within the CCR is a notification regarding a monitoring violation that occurred in 2013.  The Bonner Springs public water supply system violated a drinking water standard by failure to complete scheduled monitoring and testing for coliform bacteria.  Even though this was not considered an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We are required to routinely test for coliform bacteria no fewer than eight (8) times per month.  In September 2013, we did not meet this requirement for three (3) of the 8 samples due to a miscommunication between Department personnel.  Although the 3 samples were taken, the samples were not submitted for proper analysis and therefore the results were not available.

This is NOT an emergency and there is nothing you need to do at this time and at no time was a there a direct health risk.   We have reviewed the situation internally to ensure this type of problem does not occur in the future.  If you have any concerns or questions regarding this notice or the violation please contact Rick Sailler at 913-667-3514 or 913-422-8117.
