Eligibility Guidelines
Eligibility Standards
Standards for eligibility are established by HUD guidelines and by Bonner Springs Housing Authority’s Admission and Continued Occupancy Plan (ACOP). These standards include income eligibility, criminal history, and rental history.

Public Notice: Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy Revision

The Bonner Springs Housing Authority requests public comments for amendments to the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy (ACOP).

The comment period is open from July 24, 2014 to August 25, 2014.

Copies of the proposed Policy are available for public review using the link below or they may be picked up at 420 N Park Avenue, Bonner Springs between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.

An opportunity to provide verbal and/or written comments will also occur at a Public Hearing on August 25, 2014, 7:30pm at City Council Chambers, 205 East Second Street, Bonner Springs. The Housing Authority only solicits comments that pertain to this policy.

Comments must be submitted and/or received on or before August 25, 2014.

Eligible Applicants
  • Have U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status
  • Have annual gross income within eligible limits for a family of their size
  • Not commit fraud against a housing authority, now or in the past
  • Not intentionally falsify an application
  • Pass background investigations
Ineligible Applicants
  • Anyone who provides false or misleading information on a housing application
  • Household members that have been evicted or had their assistance terminated from a federal housing program
  • Household members with a history of violent criminal, and/or drug activity
  • Households with bad rental history including unpaid rent, damages, and disturbances
  • Households owing funds to any housing authority or HUD-subsidized property

Additional Information
Elderly status is given to the head of household and/or spouse who is 62 years old or older. Disabled status is given to the head of household and/or spouse who is receiving SSI or SSDI for a disability or is certified by a doctor as disabled according to the federal definition of disabled.

As units become available, names are pulled from the top of the list for the size of unit available. Applicants are then screened for eligibility. This includes verifying household income, rental history, and a criminal background check of all adult members of the family to determine whether any family member has been arrested or convicted for drug-related or violent criminal activity.
