Group Swimming Lessons
Classes
Group classes will last 30 minutes Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Friday's will be used as weather related make-up days. Students will be skill evaluated on the first day of class ensuring that they are where they need to be. 

Register
  • Complete a Group Lesson Registration Form
  • Registration deadline is Friday before the first day of class
  • Registration will begin Monday, May 20th at the Bonner Springs Community Center. After May 24th, registration will only take place at the Aquatic Park during normal business hours.

Fees & Times 
  • Group Lessons residents: $35/session
  • Group Lessons non-residents: $40/session
  • Aqua-Tots (Parent/Child) residents: $20/session
  • Aqua-Tots (Parent/Child) non-residents: $25/session

Times of classes will depend on what level the participant enrolls in.

Skill Requirements

Aqua-Tots (Parent/Child) (6 month 35 months):
The "Aqua-Tots" class is designed to familiarize 6 months to 35 months in water with help from a parent or guardian. The sessions are not intended to teach how to swim, but rather to get the child acquainted with the water. 

Minnows (3 to 6 years): The skills taught in Minnows consist of: exiting the water safely, submerging the face, blowing bubbles, bobbing, picking up a submerged object, maintain a front & back float position, swim on front and back 5ft with swim belt and teacher's assitance. Each child must be at least 3 years old before the first class to register.

Guppies (3 to 6 years): The skills taught in Guppies consist of: exiting the water from the side, submerging entire head, picking up a submerged object, blowing bubbles, front and back float, front/back crawl and elementary backstroke 10ft with swim belt by self. Child must be able to pass skills from Minnows to register.

Tadpoles (3 to 6 years): The skills taught in Tadpoles consist of: jumping into 4ft water, picking up submerged objects, blowing through nose, front and back glide, front/back crawl and elementary backstroke without swim belt or teachers assistance half way across the pool, and beginnings of breast stroke. Child must be able to pass skills from Guppies to register.

Moonfish (3 to 6 years): The skills taught in Moonfish consist of: beginnings of diving, swimming underwater, treading water, front and back crawl across the pool with rotary breathing, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly kick with body motion, beginnings of sidestroke. Child must be able to pass skills from Tadpoles to register.

Starfish (3 to 6 years): The skills taught in Starfish consist of: diving, swimming underwater, treading water, front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly kick with body motion, and sidestroke. Please take note that this level is intended to build endurance rather than skills. Child must be able to pass skills from Moonfish to register.

Level 1 (7 & up): The skills taught in Level 1 consist of: exiting the water safely, submerging entire head, bobbing, front and back float, front and back glide, swim on front and back 5 ft. Each child must be at least 7 years old before the first class in order to register.

Level 2 (7 & up): The skills taught in Level II consist of: treading water, front and back float, front and back glide, front and back crawl, change directions while swimming and elementary back stroke. Child must be able to pass skills in Level 1 to register.

Level 3 (7 & up): The skills taught in Level III are: jumping into deep water, retrieve a submerged ovject, beginnings of rotary breathing, front and back glide into crawl, tread water, and beginnings of breast stroke. Child must be able to pass skills in Level II to register.

Level 4 (7 & up): The skills taught in Level IV consist of: surface diving, beginnings of sidestroke, must swim front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly kick across pool. Must be able to pass skills in Level III to register.

Level 5 (7 & up): The skills tuaght in Level V consist of: diving, surface diving, swimming underwater and treading water. Swim ront crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly body motion, and sidestroke with ease. Please take note that this level is intended to build endurance rather than skills. Child must be able to pass skills from Level IV to register.

How to choose the correct level of Swimming Lessons
First…
Children enrolling in Pre-School lessons must be ages 3-6.   Younger children not ready for lessons but may be interested in our Parent/Child swim class.  Ages 7 and older need to register for the Level classes.
Second…
Review the skills needed in order to pass the specific class (on back of sheet).  Can your child complete all the skills listed?

YES = advance to the next level

NO = enroll in that class


Private Swim Lessons
 
Private swim lessons are for all ages and offer a one-on-one approach for learning to swim. Private lessons are tailored to the swimmer's personal goals and needs and are by appointment only.

Register

  • Complete a Private Swim Lesson Application
  • Registration begins Monday, May 20th at Bonner Springs Community Center. After May 24th, registration at the Aquatic Park during normal business hours only.  
  • Registration deadline is the Thursday before the following week

Fees
 
  • For residents: $15/half hour
  • For non-residents: $20/half hour
