Inspections Defined

  • Concrete Wall: After wall forms have been set, steel tied in place and prior to concrete.
  • Drywall: Secure drywall attachment to framing members. If a firewall is involved, there is a fastening pattern required. This pattern is dependent upon the fire rating of the wall and the type of application of the drywall and size of drywall.
  • Electric Service (Permanent): After meter can is set prior to connecting to Westar Energy.
  • Final Occupancy: After all construction is complete prior to occupying the space, a final inspection is performed to ensure things are complete.
  • Footing – Piers: This is after the earth has been dug and any steel has been put in place, but prior to concrete.
  • Gas Pressure Test: Performed by a qualified plumber or HVAC contractor. A minimum of 10 PSI air or 6-inch of mercury for a minimum of 15 minutes. If 2-inch line or larger or high pressure line, then 60 lbs. pressure for a minimum of 30 minutes without loosing pressure. Copper gas lines are prohibited on natural gas and service entrance lines entering below grade is prohibited. The entire gas system and venting is inspected to ensure safety.
  • Groundwork Plumbing/Electrical: Prior to the concrete floor being poured to view drain and water lines, electrical lines stubbed up.
  • Insulation: Prior to placement of drywall or other wall covering.
  • Kitchen Hood/Flue: Fire extinguishing system, trip test by qualified person.
  • Masonry Walls: During placement of block/brick mortar type.
  • Rough-in: All plumbing, electric, heating and air ducts and framing members. This is an inspection prior to insulation, drywall or wall covering. Structural members, electrical wiring, plumbing lines and HVAC need to be viewed.
  • Sewer: Sewer line from building tied to public main.
  • Sidewalk: Minimum width of sidewalk with 1/8” – 1/4” slope towards street. Sidewalks cannot be reduced in width.
