April Showers Bring...Weeds!

With warmer weather and sunny days comes the fun of outdoor activities, travel and yard work. Bonner Springs’ residents and property owners are responsible for mowing, trimming and maintaining all grass, weeds and brush on their properties.

Per the City’s Property Maintenance Code, properties observed with grass and/or weeds in excess of 12 inches will be issued a Violation Notice ONCE per calendar year allowing 10 days to abate the weeds. If the owner fails to comply, the City will abate the property. The property owner will be billed $125 for the first hour and $50 for every half hour thereafter for this service. If the same property is found in violation the City will, without notice, abate the property and the owner will be billed at the rate described above in addition to a $150 Failed Reinspection Fee.

Other weed conditions, such as noxious weeds or unmaintained gardens, may exist on your property that require routine maintenance or eradication in order to keep in compliance with the Property Maintenance Code. You may visit the City’s website at www.bonnersprings.org/pmco for additional information related to weeds or other nuisance issues that are addressed by the Property Maintenance Code Officer. These ordinances have been adopted to address property maintenance concerns in order to ensure that Bonner Springs remains a safe, clean, and livable city. Your cooperation in performing routine and proper maintenance is greatly appreciated.
