Many manufacturers advertise on their package that their product is "septic safe" or "disposable" when in fact, that is not true. Water and Wastewater Utilities spend thousands of dollars repairing clogged lift station pumps. Items such as feminine hygiene products, wipes, kitty litter, diapers are labeled as safe to flush. However, there is no foundation for these claims. Local and national associations are setting up guidelines that the manufacturers' products have to meet in order to be labeled as "septic safe", "disposable" or "flushable".
