The Community Development Department is supported by two committees, the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Planning Commission
Board of Zoning Appeals
The five members of the Board of Zoning Appeals are appointed at large by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. Meetings are scheduled as needed on Tuesday at 6:00 pm the same night as the Planning Commission. Their purpose is to consider appeals and variances to official decisions pertaining to the City's Zoning Ordinance.
The nine members of the Planning Commission are appointed at large by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, 7:00 pm at City Hall. Their purpose is to adopt and amend land use regulations governing land use development, rezoning, platting and subdivision of land as well as approve planning documents.
